AMA Association
Development
Along with the first boom in sensor technology, the suppliers of sensor systems became aware of common problems and got together to exchange ideas. Thus, representatives of 14 SMEs met in 1980 and founded the AMA Arbeitsgemeinschaft Messwertaufnehmer e.V. with the aim of advancing the dialog among all groups involved in sensor technology: researchers, developers, manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, service providers, and users. This membership structure, the association’s objectives, and the services it offers makes the AMA unique.
At the general meeting in 1992 it was decided to name the association “AMA Fachverband für Sensorik e.V.” Today, the AMA has more than 460 members, 85% industrial enterprises and 15% R&D institutes. About 7% of the members come from other European countries and numerous foreign companies – some from overseas are represented by their subsidiaries.
Today, European sensor technology and thus microsystem technology has a leading position on the global market and the AMA Association is its representative.
In view of the unchanged structure of the industry, consisting of many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the AMA functions as an organ for these companies and is in fact their representative, not only in Germany.
