AMA Innovation Award 2013: Nominees Selected
AMA Association Bestows Special Awards on Two Start-Up Enterprises

Berlin, March 2013-The AMA Association for Sensor Technology (AMA) nominated five contenders for the AMA Innovation Award 2013. The AMA will bestow the new special Start-Up Enterprise award for innovative ideas on two of the nominees.

For thirteen years now, the AMA Innovation Award has been one of the most coveted honors in sensor and measuring technology. This year, 60 R&D teams from Germany and abroad submitted their projects, contending for the 10,000-euro award. Start-up enterprises, active on the market for less than five years, having fewer than 50 employees and an annual turnover under 10 million euros, were asked to contend for the special Start-Up Enterprise award. The winner is granted free participation at the SENSOR+TEST 2013. This year, two such enterprises will be granted the new award:

Balthasar Fischer (Xarion Laser Acoustics GmbH, Vienna, Austria; brochure page 14) for the development of an optical microphone without a membrane, and Hendrik Faustmann's team (SensAction AG, Coburg, Germany; brochure page 24) for the LiquidSens Multisensor for liquid monitoring. Both convinced the jury with their outstanding innovations.

The primary criteria for both awards, the traditional one and the one for Start-Up Enterprises, are the degree of innovation, originality, and evident market relevance. The awards go to the researchers and developers themselves - in other words, to the innovators. More: AMA Innovation Award 2013: Nominees Selected

Sensor and Measuring Technology: Industry Stable and Optimistic
AMA Association publishes new sensor industry statistics

The sensor and measuring industry ends last year with only a slight increase in turnover, but continued investments and increasing need for personnel. German exports to other European countries puts brakes on sensor economy, while overseas exports are again on the rise.

Berlin, 1 March 2013 - The AMA Association for Sensor and Measuring Technology (AMA) polled its members on the economic development in 2012. The German sensor and measuring industry can look back to an overall stable year compared to the previous years of economic turbulence. AMA is banking on economic growth of BRIC states
AMA centre at the Automation in Mumbai

With its presence at the trade fair Automation in Mumbai the AMA Association for Sensor Technology has underlined the interest of its members to participate in the real and expected economic growth in BRIC states. The 7th edition of the leading trade fair in India (7th-10th September 2012) brought together around 680 exhibitors and more than 33,000 visitors at the Bombay Exhibition Centre.

A stroll through the halls reveals not only the strong position of German and European companies in the area of automation, sensor and measuring technology, but also as the growing interest of American and Japanese manufacturers in the Indian market. For many years a change towards mechanization and automation has been taking place in India, in order to live up to the international expectations concerning quality and delivery reliability. "It is obvious that the Indian market for automation will grow", annotates the experienced export representative of a Japanese producer of optical sensors, smart cameras and inspection systems, "therefore it is crucial for us to be here now and not when the claims have already been staked". Obituary

Founder of the AMA Association for Sensor Technology Died
Ulrich Führer passed away at 68 years of age

Berlin, 30 Aug. 2012-On the 21st of August, 2012, Ulrich Führer, the initiator and founder of the AMA, died after a long and serious illness at the age of 68.

In the early 1980ies, as the managing director of Messring Systembau GmbH, Ulrich Führer sought allies in realizing an idea: Jointly their enterprises in the new sensor industry could attain attractive stand areas at big trade fairs. A few months later, in November of 1980, the representatives of fourteen enterprises dealing with sensor and measuring technology met in Munich and founded the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Meßwert-Aufnehmer (AMA), today's AMA Association for Sensor Technology. The delegates of the founding enterprises elected Ulrich Führer as their first chairman. More

Sensor and Measuring Technology Stays on Growth Course
AMA Association publishes poll results for the first quarter of 2012

Berlin, July 2012-The AMA Association for Sensor Technology (AMA) polled its member enterprises regarding the economic development during the first quarter of 2012. The results: increases in turnover, increases in orders received, and expanding employment plans.

The AMA, as the representative of sensor and measuring technology, surveys its 470 members every quarter as to the economic development. In the first quarter of 2012, the senor industry showed a decided growth curve. The turnover in the sensor and measuring branch increased in the first quarter by approximately eight percent compared with the results of the previous quarter. A further indicator for the good economic mood in the sensor industry is the positive development of incoming orders. These were a good seven percent higher than in the last quarter of 2011. More
