Handheld FTIR-PAS Gas Analyzer for the Detection of Toxic Chemicals in Safety and Security Application Utilizing the Novel Ultra-Sensitive MEMS Cantilever Sensor

Detection of minute quantities of toxic chemicals for security and safety applications remains immensely important. For detection, Pasera Company's novel photoacoustic (PAS) gas analyzer utilizes a miniaturized measurement chamber with a Si cantilever and an optical interferometer to measures its deflection. This combination enables unprecedented sensitivities approximately 100 times better than microphone-based systems and approximately 10 times better than the more costly quartz tuning fork-based systems -a compelling advantage for this system's practical acceptance. Its main use is seen in the detection of chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial compounds.
